The workshop benefitted from the expertise of Dr. Steffan Von Der Beck, and Mr Torben Adams from Germany who shared their experiences and cases from other jurisdictions. Two local experts also participated and shared the Namibian experience on correctional matters. Interestingly, a former inmate narrated his experiences about the correctional facilities, training opportunities and challenges while incarcerated.
In brief, the topics covered included; German Prison Act –StVollzG: theory and Practice; the Impact of Incarceration and Re-entry on Children, Families, and Communities; the Psychological Impact of Incarceration: Implications for Post-prison Adjustment; Legal Framework of Probation and Post Care and German Penal Law; Practical Requirements of Post Care in German Law Practice / Example of Best Practice in Lower Saxony and the Correctional Services in Namibia and the challenges.
The participants engaged the experts on the issues and contributed their experiences to the benefit of the workshop. The workshop was aimed at sharing information and learning from best practices around the world to help improve the wellbeing of all affected by people being reintegrated into society after incarceration.
