Community Workshop for Traditional Authorities in Omusati Region - Foundation Office Namibia and Angola
Event Reports
The Governor of Omusati Region, Hon. Erginus Endjala, welcomed the participants of the workshop, who were mainly Traditional Authorities, including women, as well as community land board members. In his speech he underlined the importance of this project as it meets the needs and requirements of affected people in the project regions and sets topics like women’s rights and land ownership rights on the agenda. He thanked KAS and WAD for their commitment. The workshop got positive feedback from all workshop participants. The presentation of the Traditional Authorities Act caused a lively discussion about the duties and responsibilities of Traditional Authorities. Many of the participants were ready to give recaps of former discussions in the course of the workshop. It can therefore be concluded that the discussed topics were presented understandable and replicable for all participants. The obviously growing number of participants throughout the workshop intensified the discussions, particularly during topics like the Communal Land Reform Act and its framework for gender equality and gender equity. On the last day of the workshop, the Chief of the Ombalantu Traditional Authorities thanked again the organizers and scheduled an appointment with all Traditional Authorities to discuss a strategy on how to pass on the knowledge to all community members.
It was another effective and useful workshop that was favored by the participants, who expressed their wish for the continuation of such events and for that matter the discussion of the presented topics. Special thanks to the Omusati Regional Council for the opportunity to conduct the workshop in the regional council hall in Outapi and to the Chief of the Ombalantu Traditional Authority for the support in organization.
