The participants were mostly women from the community, but also members of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, Ministry of Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare, Ministry of Health and Social Services, Police officers as well as interested married and single men. The workshop had the target to inform and train the participants on Human Rights, the Namibian Constitution, the differences between traditional and codified law, as well as rights guaranteed to women in the context of the Communal Land Reform Act. Especially the explanations on Human and women’s rights provided vital information to the participants as many of them hadn’t known about gender equality inter alia guaranteed by the Constitution. The workshop was very well attended and full of discussion, questioning and experience sharing. The discussions especially centered on the procedures of the Communal Land Reform Act and controversial opinions on will-writing. The participants reported of their struggles with allocating land and that they need to learn more on their rights and how to claim them by additional workshops. Special thanks to the Okatjali Constituency Council for the support and the possibility to hold the workshop in their community hall.
