Within this initiative, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in cooperation with the University of Namibia (UNAM) and its implementing partner Women's Action for Development (WAD) presented the results of the baseline study "Women's Land Use, Ownership and Land Rights in Ohangwena, Omusati, Oshana and Oshikoto Regions of Namibia" at the Hifikepunye Pohamba Campus Main Hall in Ongwediva on the 3rd of August 2017. After the official opening remarks by the major of Ongwediva, Councilor Angelina Angula, and the KAS resident representative, Mr. Thomas Keller, the results of the baseline study were presented by Ms. Ndeshi Namupala and Mr. Martin Shapi, both from the University of Namibia. This was followed by the presentation of the Oshivambo version of the Namibian Constitution, which was conducted by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and given out to all event participants. During the following two hours, the participants were engaged in a fruitful discussion with the panelists consisting of Ms. Stefanie Braun (KAS), Ms. Louise Shixwameni, Ms. Romie Nghitevelekwa (UNAM) and Mr. Absai Kashululu (WAD). The most important objective was to create awareness among the participants as well as to address the social and economic discrimination women are exposed to under the current legal framework in Namibia. Improved legal rights and secured access to land are particularly important for women and this topic served as a central theme through the well-attended event as a whole.
