Thomas Birringer, Resident Representative of the KAS in the Palestinian Autonomous Territories, informed the participants about the work of the KAS in the region and, afterwards, discussed with the inquiring group about the Palestinian party system.
The delegation got an insight into the Palestinian university system during a visit at the Birzeit University in Ramallah. Jamil Elias Salem, research associate at the Institute of Law (IOL), which has been an important partner for the KAS since years, presented the research work of the Institute and explained the legal position in the Palestinian Autonomous Territories. After his presentation, he answered umpteen questions of the interested group.
At a stay at the Negotiation Support Unit (NSU), a part of the Negotiations-Affairs Department of the PLO, the group got a briefing about territorial questions, settlements, barriers, and movement restrictions for Palestinians
The program was rounded off by a visit of the German representative office, where political advisor Philip Holzapfel gave a detailed explanation about the situation in the Palestinian Autonomous Territories. He also briefed the group about the work of the representative office focussing on the German position in the Israeli-Arab conflict.
