In the 6th edition of the Newsletter you can find out more about the following topics and events by IPDEV:
‘Finding ways to fill the gap’ gives details about the gap of knowledge among indigenous people (IP) in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) regarding their rights. In corporation with DEVCON training sessions for IP organizations were carried out to effectively fill this gap.
‘Exposure to traditional conflict management’ gives insight into traditional conflict management and tribal justice as they are still practiced up to now among IPs in the ARMM.
‘Empowerment in laws and para-legal awareness’ shows the efforts made to increase the IP's knowledge about their legal rights.
A collection of snapshots in ‘Kansad Gadung: The spirit of self-governance’ grants deep insight into the IP's way of governance.
An overview of current numbers of different tribal members as well as their locations and ancestral territorial claims are provided in ‘FYI: Get to know better your IP neighbor’.
Kansad Gadung in action is shown in the article ‘Born out of a bitter past’. Leaders from different tribes came together at Kansad Gadung, also known as the Malacanang of the IPs, to learn about Timuay Justice and Governance and to discuss different forms of Governance among IPs.
The then following article ‘Racing against hope’ addresses the specific challenges that IPs in the ARMM have to face since there is no National Commission on Indigenous Peoples which could take care of IP matters.
Finally, the newsletter ends with ‘The ‘TANA TUPO’ of the Dulangan-Manobo’ article which gives an example of the fight of IPs for their ancestral domain. By adopting the ancestral domain sustainable development and protection plan, aided by IPDEV, the Dulangan-Manobo community is preparing and educating themselves to enforce their claims on their home, the Tana Tupo land.
