Fighting for Democracy on the Ground

Aspirations vs. Realities

The Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections present a vital chance to refresh local leadership in the Philippines. Many young leaders want to get involved, but they often lack experience in campaigning, community engagement, and decision-making grounded in strong values. Additionally, there is a noticeable disconnect between democratic principles and the realities of local politics, which can undermine the motivation and integrity of new candidates.

Fighting for Democracy on the Ground: Aspirations vs. Realities

To tackle this challenge, KAS Philippines and the Asian Democratic Leaders’ Alliance – Philippine Chapter are hosting an event titled “Fighting for Democracy on the Ground: Aspirations vs. Realities.” This event aims to provide aspiring SK and barangay leaders with practical insights into local campaigning, youth involvement, and ethical leadership. It will feature alumni from the Konrad Adenauer School for Young Politicians who will share their personal campaign experiences from the 2025 National and Local Elections. By listening to their stories, participants will be better equipped to make informed, ethical, and community-focused decisions as they embark on their own leadership journeys.
