What The Tariff?!?

How the New Tariff Rates Impact the World, Our Work, and Our Wallets

In July 2025, the U.S. and the Philippines struck a new trade agreement: U.S. goods enter the Philippines tax-free, while Philippine exports to the U.S. face a 19% tariff—better than the initially proposed 20%, but still far higher than the previous zero-duty arrangement.

Manila Calling - What The Tariff

Manila Calling is KAS Philippines’ discussion series that brings big issues closer to everyday Filipinos. Each session is designed to spark meaningful conversations with thought leaders, practitioners, and citizens on topics that shape our lives, from global developments to local realities.

Our upcoming discussion, titled “What The Tariff?!? How the New Tariff Rates Impact the World, Our Work, and Our Wallets”, will explore the wide-ranging implications of the recent tariff policy adjustments imposed by the United States. This forum will examine the effects of these changes, from costs of imported goods to potential strain on Philippine industries like electronics, agriculture, and apparel. It will also explore the broader implications on regional trade dynamics, global supply chains, and geopolitical alignments especially within the context of the West Philippine Sea tensions and U.S.–Philippine strategic relations.

This is a free event. Dinner will be served, but seats are limited!
