Navigating the Diplomatic Waters

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Philippines Office, the Asian Institute of Management Rizalino S. Navarro Policy Center for Competitiveness, and Ruhr-Universität Bochum held a conference, "Maritime Disputes in the South China Sea: Navigating the Diplomatic Waters" on Friday, 23 November 2018 at the Makati Diamond Residences.

This conference focused on maritime disputes in the South China Sea: what went on before with the unanimous Award issued on 12 July 2016 by the Permanent Court of Arbitration and how the Philippines can work with the results. Moreover, the conference served as a good opportunity to get the perspectives from theASEANand theEuropean Unionwith regards to mutual cooperation in maritime disputes. The conference was attended by the public and representatives from government, the international community, the academe, the business sector, civil society, the national security sector, and the media. The event was also attended by Supreme Court of the PhilippinesJustice Antonio Carpio andInternational Tribunal for the Law of the SeaJudge Stanislaw Pawlak who took part as distinguished panelists.
