Report on the Regional Constitutional Courts' Conference "Constitutional Jurisdiction in Theory and Practice"(German)

From the 26th to the 28th October 2009 the jointly with the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Serbia organised Constitutional Court Conference: "Constitutional Jurisdiction in Theory and Practice" took place in Belgrade, Serbia. The conference was the largest project of the RSP SOE on the topic 'strenghtening the constitutional jurisdiction' in 2009. The RSP SOE publication "Essential decisions of the Bundesverfassungsgericht" was presented at the event as well.

The strengthening of a functioning constitutional jurisdiction is one of the main focus' of the Rule of Law Program of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung. Within this focal point, the first regional Constitutional Courts' Conference "Constitutional Jurisdiction in Theory and Practice" took place in Serbia's capital Belgrade from the 26th to the 28th October 2009. The RSP SOE organised this symposium together with the Serbian Constitutional Court. The conference also commemorated the 60th anniversary of the German Constitution. The event series "German Days 2009" organised by the German embassy in Belgrade, which framed the symposium, also marked this jubilee. The Constitutional Courts' Conference was the central project in a series of event the RSP SOE conducted in 2009 to present its publication of collected decisions in the region. Guest of Honour and key-note speaker was the president of the German Constitutional Court, Prof. Dr. Dres. h.c. Hans- Jürgen Papier. With more than 150 participants, amongst them the presidents as well as judges of the constitutional courts in the countries of the Western Balkan as well as numerous constitutional law experts, the conference was well received. The RSP SOE also presented the attendees its publication "Selected decision of the German Constitutional Court" (translation into four languages of the Western Balkan).
