Created in the first 2 years by the Czech Centre, starting with the last years edition the festival is organized by the newly founded One World Romania Association together with the Czech Centre Bucharest.

The opening event will be held at the Patria Cinema on the 16th of March with a festival inauguration, presentation and a concert of a prominent Romanian band.

Like in the past editions, the festival aims at the same goals: to present as many relevant themes as possible, through quality films, to reach as many young people as possible and therefore to help create an active community, willing to know and to get involved into solving problems that others face, under the motto: WHAT A WONDERFULL WORLD!?.

This year, One World Romania Film Festival brings 36 new documentaries from 25 countries to Bucharest. The screenings will take place from March 16th to March 21st in four cinemas in downtown Bucharest: Eforie, Union and Corso. As the audience has been used to, we will host a special screening in Noul Cinematograf al Regizorului Roman, each evening from the 17th to the 21st of March.

Out of all the documentaries in this year’s selection, 33 will be screened for the first time in Romania. Moreover, two of the Romanian productions, “The Corlat Valley”, directed by Stephane Lucon and "After the Revolution" by Laurentiu Calciu, will have the premiere during One World Romania.

Every year, the festival becomes more focused on dialogue to promote the idea of active and engaged community. Each screening will be followed by a discussion with international and Romanian guests – film directors, specialists and activists.

As usual, during the opening gala, you will see a selection of trailers for part of the movies in the festival. Even if we never had a screening at this event until this year, for the fourth edition we decided to change things a bit. So, in Patria Cinema, we will have a special screening of “Donation Addiction”, a short documentary of the German director Lutz Heineking, jr.

“Donation Addiction” is produced by the Cologne Academy of Media Arts. The documentary follows a group of people who are so uncompromisingly driven in their quest to do good, that they become a burden to society.

After the screening there will be a concert held by the Shukar Collective band – a unique musical project. The concert at One World Romania is the first one after quite a break that the members of the band took.

Auspices

In 2011, as well as the first 3 editions of One World Romania, the festival is held under the auspices of the former Czech Republic President, Vaclav Havel. Alongside, Radu Filipescu, Karel Schwarzenberg and Kelemen Hunor show their support for this year’s festival taking place in Bucharest.

Vaclav Havel is the initiator of the One World Film Festival, held in Prague since 1999. Havel is a strong supporter of the human rights’ issue, being involved in this field ever since the 1970s. Among others, Václav Havel is also the chair of the International Committee of the Human Rights Foundation.

Radu Filipescu is founding member of the Group for Social Dialogue and of the Romanian Helsinki Committee. In the communist era, Radu Filipescu protested on several times against the system, being convincted at prison for “propaganda against the socialist society”.

Since 2010, Karel Schwarzenberg is the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. During the 1960s, Schwarzenberg became active in the resistance against the communist dictatorship in Czechoslovakia and became a prominent human rights advocate. From 1984 to 1991, he was chairman of the International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights.

Kelemen Hunor is the Minister for Culture and National Heritage since 2009. Before starting his political career in 1997, he graduated the Veterinary Medicine and Philosophy Universities in Cluj.
