Workshop
Details
The aim of the workshop is to discuss the way in which other countries’ experience in establishing and running constitutional tribunals might assist the Myanmar Constitutional Tribunal with its work. To this end, this workshop seeks to discuss the role of constitutional tribunals in other parts of the world in upholding democracy and contributing to democratic consolidation. Other topics include the jurisdiction of the Tribunal, approaches to constitutional interpretation, methods for building the public profile of the Tribunal, procedures and access to the Tribunal, and remedies. It is hoped that the discussion of all these topics will be a dialogue and conversation that will not only provide opportunities for learning and sharing of best practices from our contributors, but provide the members of the Tribunal to share with the participants what their understanding of these issues are.
The workshop will be co-organized by the Australia-Myanmar Constitutional Democracy Project of University of New South Wales Law School (UNSW) in Sydney Australia and the Rule of Law Programme Asia of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, based in Singapore.
