KAS South Africa successfully hosted the Delegation of Dr Gerhard Wahlers from 15 to 18 November 2025, engaging a broad spectrum of South African stakeholders at a critical moment ahead of the country’s G20 presidency. The visit facilitated strategic exchanges on global governance, regional diplomacy, domestic political reforms, and the evolving role of the Government of National Unity.
Across meetings in Cape Town and Stellenbosch, the delegation held substantive dialogues with leaders including the President of the IFP, senior representatives of SAIIA, civil society experts on parliamentary oversight, religious leaders, and national‑government representatives working on public security. Engagements also included discussions on Jewish community life, minority protection, the legacy of F.W. de Klerk, and South Africa’s shifting role within the African continent and the wider Global South.
The programme strengthened long‑standing KAS partnerships and deepened understanding of South Africa’s foreign policy priorities and domestic governance challenges. The visit also underscored the importance of political dialogue, institutional cooperation and scenario‑based thinking as South Africa prepares to play a central role on the global stage.
