Media Dialogue 7:
Thailand’s Hazardous Waste Situation: and Efforts to Clear the “World’s Trash Bin”
Facebook Live from SEA-Junction |Thursday, October 29, 2020 | 13:00 – 15:30 (BKK Time)
In the recent years, developments both inside and outside Thailand have caused the surge of hazardous waste in the country. The import of the waste has been shifted to the country since China closed its door against it. At the same time, economic activities under the development policies have exacerbated the situation by going beyond the waste management capacity. Thailand as the dubbed “world’s trash bin” is now facing new challenges: to find ways to reduce the impacts of hazardous waste management and contamination. And public discussions are needed in this regard.
The news agency Bangkok Tribune, supported by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, is organizing an online conference to discuss this trans-boundary yet complexed issue. This is meant to search for solutions in order to achieve public health and environmental goals, while still boosting economic growth.
This conference is the seventh of a series of Media Dialogues on current Thai, regional, and global developments organized by the Bangkok Tribune and the KAS. It will take place on Thursday, October 29 at 13:00 onward (Bangkok Time) at SEA-Junction, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC). Facebook Live from the venue will start at 13:25 and the conference will be conducted in Thai language.
To participate in the conference, please send an email to Thasuthida.thetthong@kas.de. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the conference either online or at the venue (in accordance with social distancing measures), and how to take part in the Q&A sessions with the panelists.
