IDU Forum 2022
International Conference in Washington
After a two-year break due to Covid, the annual Forum of the International Democrat Union (IDU) was back again this week in Washington, D.C. The KAS Office USA participated with a panel discussion on the impact of the war in Ukraine on the food supply in Africa. Ghanaian Foreign Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, IDU Chairman and former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Volkmar Klein, spokesman for economic cooperation and development of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group in the German Bundestag, also discussed opportunities and challenges for foreign investment and regional integration in Africa.

KAS-AJC Exchange Seminar 2022
A Visiting Program in Washington, DC, New York, NY and Dallas, TX
We are happy to resume the annual KAS-AJC Exchange Seminar this year after a two-year pandemic hiatus. Twelve participants from Germany will visit Washington, DC, New York, NY and Dallas, TX. for an in depth exchange with U.S. stakeholders. The program connects political and civic leaders from the U.S. and Germany to shape the relations between Israel, Germany and the U.S., to learn about Jewish life in our countries and to discuss Jewish Advocacy efforts.

German Campaign Experts in the US: 2022 Midterms
A Visiting Program in Washington, DC and Atlanta, GA
In October, a delegation of German party and campaign experts visited the United States ahead of the 2022 midterm elections. The group heard from counterparts in Washington, DC, before heading to Atlanta, Georgia to observe campaign efforts on the ground in a key battleground state. In addition to campaign and polling experts, the group met with grassroots campaigners, journalists, and elected officials.

RTL School of Journalism visits KAS Office USA
The upcoming midterm elections will be in the center of a briefing and expert discussion on September 30th for a group of students of the Cologne based RTL School of Journalism. They will be in Washington to experience firsthand the political and media landscape of the American capital. The young journalists will take a deep dive into the political culture and the intricacies of the two-party system to deepen their understanding of how to report about U.S. policy and society.

Transatlantic Trade Agenda: Priorities and Outlook
A Visiting Program in Washington, D.C. with MEP Daniel Caspary
MEP Daniel Caspary, Chairman of the Delegation for Relations with the Countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and member of the Committee on International Trade, visited Washington, D.C., from September 20th to 22nd. He met with members of Congress and representatives from the administration, along with experts from various think tanks and international institutions. They discussed current barriers and prospects in the realm of transatlantic trade, as well as opportunities for transatlantic cooperation against the backdrop of the Ukraine War.

KAS - E3G Forum on Climate, Trade and Development
Developing countries already under a climate change crisis, are now facing additional stress exacerbated by events unraveling in the northern hemisphere. In addition to the already existing challenges faced by the United States and Europe – e.g., Covid-19, the war in Ukraine, energy supply conundrum and the looming potential of a recession – there is a need to not lose sight of long-term objectives in the Global South.

A Visiting Program in Washington, DC; Charlotte, NC and Spartanburg, SC with Members of the German Bundestag
From June 7 to June 10, Thomas Silberhorn, Spokesperson for Transatlantic Relations of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group, and the Member of Bundestag Anne König, visited the U.S. They discussed current issues related to security, trade, and digitization, alongside domestic issues, including the upcoming US midterm elections in November. The delegation met representatives from Congress and the Administration, as well as a wide range of US experts.
