Pragmatic Partnership: Transatlantic Strategies for the Coming Decade

by Sabine Murphy

Roundtable Discussion with Federal Minister Karin Prien

In an era of increasing polarization and rapid technological disruption, new strategies are required to ensure the long-term resilience and vitality of transatlantic relations. To address these challenges, we convened a roundtable discussion in Washington, D.C. in honor of the Federal Minister of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth Karin Prien.

Federal Minister Karin Prien met with US-experts to evaluate the growing pressure liberal democracies are facing today. This shift in values is increasingly influencing transatlantic relations.  The experts acknowledged the change of conditions nations on both sides of the Atlantic are experiencing and the need for a new approach to preserve the mutual benefits of this partnership.  They discussed the rethinking of the transatlantic understanding and developing of new narratives that inspire and encourage renewed engagement. One idea to implementing this initiative is increasing opportunities for the younger generation to connect and exchange ideas. In this context, education plays an essential role, a theme explored in depth during this frank exchange.
