The KAS Office USA and the North Carolina Zeitgeist Foundation convened an event to look back on the diplomatic milestone of the Élysée treaty, signed in 1963 by Konrad Adenauer and Charles de Gaulle.

In his keynote speech, the Portuguese Ambassador to the U.S., underscored Europe’s sustained commitment to strengthening European unity and strong ties with the United States by reinforcing the institutional pillars of a robust, future oriented transatlantic partnership.

The exchange in Charlotte, N.C. pointed to the importance of stability, innovation focused growth, and tight coordination to bolster transatlantic competitiveness. The strength of democratic systems is anchored in continued investment in the knowledge and innovation ecosystem, which advances modernization and reinforces social cohesion. Building on this foundation, Europe is increasingly looking to expand investment and collaboration beyond traditional major markets to include emerging and underserved regions across the United States.
