As part of a five-month development programme, 73 young leaders participated in a series of workshops combining online learning with in-person sessions. The training is part of the WYDE Political Parties project, which is funded by the EU and led by the European Network of Political Foundations (ENoP).
The first phase took place online from March 3 to 14, 2024. During this period, participants explored the fundamentals of democratic systems.
Dr. Justin Ilboudo introduced key concepts such as civic participation, elections, referendums, and major political ideologies.
Mr. Saturnin Gaudet explained the structure and function of republican institutions, highlighting the importance of transparency and credibility in electoral processes. Dr. William Agblonon focused on how citizens can engage in democratic life and the role political parties play in that process.
Communication expert Mr. Gérard Guèdègbé discussed the vital role of the media in strengthening democratic governance and countering misinformation.
In April, the second phase took place through in-person workshops held in Abidjan, Bouaké, and Man. Mr. Guèdègbé led a session on political leadership and strategic communication, followed by training on voter mobilization strategies. Participants took part in practical exercises, such as writing and delivering political speeches, and received personalised feedback. Dr. Alama Silué addressed the integration of youth and women into political life and shared concrete ideas for increasing engagement in political parties and public affairs.
Each participant also developed a personal action plan during a dedicated planning session.
In the final module, Dr. Béranger N’Cho spoke about ethics in politics, the fight against corruption, and the importance of sustainable development. The training concluded with a simulated election campaign, providing an immersive, hands-on learning experience in a team setting.
These interactive sessions fostered meaningful exchange and strengthened connections among the young leaders. At the end of the programme, all participants committed to applying their new skills within their communities. A final event is scheduled for August to present outcomes and award certificates of participation.
