The publications department intends to use its publications to contribute towards debates on contemporary history, place an emphasis on historical research, and by exploiting the archives of written documents, to represent Christian democratic politics as well as understanding the history of the party and its associations.

We are committed to preserving the legacy of those who founded Christian democratic politics for future generations through the publication of letters or diaries, for instance. This is the purpose of the pocket book series published by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, such as „Andreas Hermes – With Steadfast Trust in God and a Tenacious Fighting Spirit“.

Furthermore, the publications are to portray the emergence and development of Christian democratic parties as well as illustrating their importance and role in social life. This is best encapsulated by the series „Research and Sources on Contemporary History“. This publication series as well as the scientific journal „Historical/Political Messages“ also provide young scientists with a forum to publish their research results.

The edited protocols of the CDU federal executive board demonstrate the link between parties and contemporary history. As with many publications of the department, these editions are also available online as a full text .

The connection between historical research and current political debates is also reflected in the department’s commercial publications, such as „Courage to Take Responsibility. Women Shape the Politics of the CDU“.
