The public lecture "Building a Regional Peace Community in the Asia-Pacific from a Human Security Perspective", supported by KAS Cambodia, will be presented by Dr. Sorpong Peou, Professor of International Security at the Ryerson University.
Prof. Peou will argue that the development of regional peace community requires a high degree of human security that only stable democratic states can provide. In advanced regional peace community concepts, scientists assume and try to validate the thesis that people-centered democracies are more stable and stable democracies make regional peace communities durable. Although much has been written about human security in East Asia, no serious effort has been made to make human security the key conceptual foundation of regional peace community in the Asia-Pacific. The public lecture will try to fill both gaps and bring the correlation of human security and regional peace communities to a broader public.
