Am 28. November 2014 wählte Namibia zum sechsten Mal seit seiner Unabhängigkeit einen Präsidenten und ein nationales Parlament. Dr. Bernd Althusmann, Leiter des Auslandsbüros Namibia und Angola, war als offizieller Wahlbeobachter an diesem Tag unterwegs und wir, ein Praktikant und eine Referendarin aus Deutschland, hatten die einmalige Gelegenheit, ihn zu begleiten.

Die diesjährigen Präsidentschafts- und Parlamentswahlen am 28. November 2014 in Namibia lassen einen friedlichen und wenig überraschenden Ablauf erwarten. Voraussichtlich wird dies auch für das Ergebnis der Wahlen gelten. Viel verändern dürfte sich nach bisheriger, vorsichtiger Einschätzung der allgemeinen politischen Stimmungslage nicht, obwohl Namibia nunmehr unverändert seit 24 Jahren vor großen Herausforderungen steht: rund 40 Prozent der Einwohner Namibias leben in bitterer Armut unterhalb der Armutsgrenze von 2 US-Dollar am Tag, gerade in den ländlichen Regionen.

On a Friday, 28 November 2014, the Namibians are going to vote a new Parliament and a new President for the sixth time. 16 Parties and nine Presidential Candidates compete against each other. The election day has been declared a national holiday. For the first time in Namibia, there will be only one election day.
