Welcome to the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung!

Freedom, justice and solidarity are the basic principles underlying the work of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS). The KAS is a political foundation, closely associated with the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). As co-founder of the CDU and the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Konrad Adenauer (1876-1967) united Christian-social, conservative and liberal traditions. His name is synonymous with the democratic reconstruction of Germany, the firm alignment of foreign policy with the trans-Atlantic community of values, the vision of a unified Europe and an orientation towards the social market economy. His intellectual heritage continues to serve both as our aim as well as our obligation today.

Through civic education activities in Germany and in over 120 countries we want to make a contribution to get closer to a world of peace, freedom and justice. The promotion of democracy, the intensification of the transatlantic relationship and development cooperation are our major goals. As a think tank and advisory agency we elaborate profound analysis to guide political action.

Multinational Development Dialogue (MNED)

The KAS New York office opened its doors in 2016 as part of the foundation´s Multinational Development Dialogue program. The office serves as a liaison between KAS offices with their experts and local partners and the United Nations. Although the New York office focuses on the world organization as a whole, these four topics are at the center of the foundation´s work in New York:

  1. Foreign- and Security Policy, conflict management
  2. Development policy
  3. Policy on climate change and energy security
  4. Rule of law

The KAS New York office regularly hosts dialog programs with experts from the KAS offices all over the world, including talks, discussions, workshops and conferences to enhance the exchange of ideas between the foundation´s network of partners and experts and different UN bodies, but also with national and international think tanks, NPOs and universities in New York. In addition, these programs provide discussions on most relevant topics to an interested audience in New York.

Furthermore, we also elaborate position papers and analysis about the work of the UN to provide our field offices and partners and the interested general public with first-hand information about the world organisation.
