Mitgliederversammlung wählt Norbert Lammert zum Vorsitzenden der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung

Hermann Gröhe wird neuer stellvertretender Vorsitzender

Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert, Präsident des Deutschen Bundestages a.D., ist in der heutigen Mitgliederversammlung einstimmig zum Vorsitzenden der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung gewählt worden. Lammert, der seit 2001 stellvertretender Vorsitzender der Stiftung ist, wird sein neues Amt zum 1. Januar 2018 antreten. Er folgt auf Dr. Hans-Gert Pöttering, der dieses Ehrenamt seit dem 1. Januar 2010 ausübte und Norbert Lammert als seinen Nachfolger vorgeschlagen hat.

Am 16. November 2017 fand bereits zum vierten Mal in diesem Jahr eine Diskussionsrunde statt, die vom Centre for Unity in Diversity (CUD) mit Unterstützung der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) organisiert wurde. Unter dem Titel „The Politics of Poverty and Inequality“ wurde in der gut besuchten Abendveranstaltung in Kapstadt, rege über die Problematik der Armut und Ungleichheit in Südafrika und mögliche politische Lösungsansätze diskutiert.

PLAY HANDBALL SUPERCUP 2017 IN KAPSTADT

In der zweitägigen Veranstaltung PLAY HANDBALL SUPERCUP am 27. und 28. Oktober 2017 an der Deutschen Internationalen Schule in Kapstadt (DSK) hatten es sich die Veranstalter, die NRO Play Handball ZA und die Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) zur Aufgabe gemacht, Sport und Umwelterziehung zu kombinieren.

In 2019 general elections will be held in South Africa to elect the new National Assembly and new Provincial Legislatures in all nine provinces. While every adult citizen in South Africa has the right to vote, however the electorate must register to vote in order to be able to participate in the voting process. Under the motto #ICOUNT the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation (KAS) in cooperation with the HDI For Good held seminars in various schools of Johannesburg.

From 6 - 9 October 2017, the New Windhoek Dialogue brought together centre-right political parties from 12 African countries, Members of the European People’s Party (EPP) Group in the European Parliament, representatives of European centre - right parties as well as the representatives of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung.

Election Analysis

The results of the 2017 Bundestag election are ambivalent. Both major parties lost support. Of the small parties, FDP and AfD were able to mobilize support, while The Greens and The Left barely experienced notable changes. The CDU/CSUunion performed best, thus constituting the largest faction with the mandate to form a government – which was nothing to be taken for granted after 12 years in power. Two options are conceivable politically: a Grand Coalition and a so- called “Jamaica coalition” consisting of the Union, FDP and The Greens, as currently governs in Schleswig-Holstein.
