Details

Whereas in Europe trade unions and labour associations exert substantial influence on the design of economic and social policy, in many Latin American countries, social dialogue with a functioning institutionalized framework for social partnership is still at an early stage. Although countries like Argentina, Chile and Peru start aligning their social policies to the European model, general conditions for dialogue between employer and employees’ fall short. Since economic and political globalisation presents an important challenge to employees’ organisations all over the world the international exchange of ideas and experiences between employees’ representatives from Europe and Latin-America is of particular importance.

The workshop aims at the intensification of the dialogue about European concepts and Latin-American perspectives regarding social coherence, social partnership and the consolidation of democratic structures in order to formulate common strategies for challenges labour unions face in the two world regions.
