Does the EU need more equality laws? The Equal Treatment Directive on goods and services: A critical analysis - Europabüro Brüssel

Details
The Equal Treatment Directive (ETD, Council Directive 2008/0140) is a legislative proposal intended to fight against discrimination in the access to and supply of goods and services. However, the Directive would impose excessive bureaucratic burdens, legal uncertainty and would turn freedom of contract from the rule to the exception. The ETD would interfere with and affect personal freedom, freedom of contract, freedom of expression and would affect the various pillars of our free and just society. After having passed Parliament, it has been negotiated by the Council ever since.
We would be delighted to welcome you to our roundtable dinner-discussion which will tackle the necessity of the ETD and of future equal treatment laws and will bridge economic concerns and foreseeable negative consequences on freedom of speech. The event will take place at the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, Avenue de l' Yser 11, 1040 Brussels, on Tuesday 10 November 2015 from 7.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m.
