HUMAN MANIFESTO

PREAMBLE. We the citizens of Ukraine, representatives of analytical centers and other public organizations, have initiated creation of this document, fully conscious of our responsibility for the future of our country. We are truly convinced - Ukraine needs changes. Nowadays we feel expectation of the civil idea in Ukraine’s development. Practically it goes about necessity to create a new civil agreement. Our position is grounded on the fact that humanity is the greatest value in any state and any society. Therefore, the state and society must guarantee respect, protection and development of an individual in any sphere (economic, political and social). We realize that a person is inclined to make mistakes. But we are also convinced that any person’s call is to form his surroundings in an ethical and moral way. This understanding, in our opinion, must be the catalyst for establishing new socio-political relationships and new socio-political forces, the essence of which will lie in understanding of the necessity of social environment subordination to the needs of harmonious development of basic human values. With this document, we want to start a dialog on the new understanding of Ukraine’s development. We are convinced that human values have to be identified, to understand how they are preserved in the society and protected by the state, how people can use these values when interacting within society, and how they may build their relations with the state. Therefore, this document is intent to define the principles, in accordance with which these relations must function. The idea of this document is seeing an individual in the centre of the existing world that implies main priorities – freedom, democracy, and justice. The main values are interdependent and inter-restricted. None of them is able to perform and achieve its goals independently. Their correlation is the essence of a long-term public discussion that helps to reflect challenges of the world around. Those main values are inseparable from an individual; therefore, they are not limited by national borders, while defining the place of the state in a globalized world. We realize natural imperfection of a human being, his/her restricted potentialities; therefore, we respect the right of others to hold their own separate views on these issues. We are tolerantly positioned, as it is impossible to build an ideal world, though we prefer to make maximum efforts to reach more freedom of an individual in this world and to build a more just society. Challenges of the XXI century can not be solved simply in a moment. To use all chances that Ukraine faces in front of global changes, we need to be prepared for changes in our own way of thinking and activities. Our goal is to create an open and responsible society, which serves introduction of the main values as: freedom, democracy and justice. We come out for: an individual as a bearer and measure of values; a society, in which an individual expects realization of his/her values through observance of these principles by society itself; a state, from which an individual demands protection and ensuring of his or her values.
