Brasilien setzt auf Kontinuität

Viertgrößte Demokratie der Welt bestätigt Dilma Rousseff im Amt

In einer knappen Entscheidung wählt ein politisch gespaltenes Land die Sozialistin Dilma Rousseff von der Arbeiterpartei PT erneut zur Staatspräsidentin. Ihrem Herausforderer Aécio Neves von der liberal-konservativen Partei der Sozialen Demokratie PSDB gelingt es trotz guter Ergebnisse im wirtschaftlich prosperierenden Süden des Landes nicht, die ärmeren Schichten von seiner Idee eines marktfreundlicheren Brasilien zu überzeugen. Rousseff siegt in einer knappen Entscheidung schließlich 51,5 % zu 48,5% mit einem nominalen Vorsprung von dreieinhalb Millionen Stimmen.

"Der Riese ist aufgewacht"

Massenproteste in Brasilien - Eine Zwischenbilanz dreier intensiver Wochen

Bereits seit über drei Wochen finden in ganz Brasilien Demonstrationen statt. Als eine der Konsequenzen hat der Nationalkongress innerhalb von drei Tagen mehr Gesetzesvorhaben „abgearbeitet“ als sonst in drei Jahren. So bringt es zumindest der Volksmund etwas überspitzt auf den Punkt. Doch auch ohne Übertreibung hat der Riese Lateinamerikas in den vergangenen Wochen eine politische Dynamik und Bewusstseinsschaffung erlebt, wie es vorher niemand hätte erahnen können. Auf vielen Plakaten der Demonstranten prangerte daher der Spruch „O gigante acordou“ – der Riese ist aufgewacht.

Es geht nicht nur um 20 Cent

240.000 Menschen protestieren

Zum ersten Mal seit gut 20 Jahren findet in Brasilien eine große Protestbewegung statt. Rund 240.000 Menschen gingen am Montag in vielen Hauptstädten des Landes auf die Straße. Angefangen hatte alles in São Paulo mit einer Demonstration gegen die Erhöhung der Bustarife um umgerechnet rund 7 Eurocent. Inzwischen geht es jedoch um weit mehr.
