In Brazil, indigenous peoples and traditional communities have historically been at the forefront of pressures on their territories, not only fighting to guarantee their ways of living and rights, but also highlighting the need to value the environment. There is an intersection between the preservation of the environment and the presence of traditional peoples in territories widely pressured by predatory and environmentally destructive economic activities. Therefore, defending traditional territories is one of the most efficient and fair ways to drive climate action.

In this sense, the second meeting in 2022 of the network aims to explore the experiences and knowledge of organizations that work representing the rights of traditional communities and indigenous peoples, highlighting their role in the climate agenda and the possibilities that municipalities have to act in partnership with these groups. It is expected that at the end of the meeting, the legislative leaders will have more knowledge about the importance that these groups have in the Brazilian climate agenda and how they can support groups like these in their municipalities.
