3rd EUROPE DAY CONFERENCE: The Enlarged European Union in a Time of New Challenges - Foundation Office Brazil
Event Reports
At the centre of the gathering was the 10th anniversary of the Eastern European accession to the Union, the post financial crisis agenda, the common Latin American-European agenda for the years ahead as well as the recent events in Ukraine. Ukraine, the stance of the European Union as well as the broader implications for the region were the issues which provoked the most heated discussions. While Brazil is a partner of Russia due to its common involvement in the BRICS group, Brazil is also very concerned about the possibility of a conflict, which could result in the loss of human lives, as well as the weakening of the sovereignty principle.
Next to the issue centered debates, the conference also provided the present speakers and the public with a forum to exchange views and ideas on a broader framework of topics and perspectives. Taking into account that both Brazil and the European Union are set to face elections, a possible closer cooperation on a parliamentary level was evaluated. The high level participants, the full house as well as the intense participation of the present public underlines the success of the event, which has morphed in its short lived existence into one of the biggest gatherings of its kind on the Latin American continent. The Konrad Adenauer Foundation is looking forward for more to come.
