KAS Alumni: “Stammtisch” Inauguration - Foundation Office Brazil

The Konrad Adenauer Foundation has a powerful network of alumni worldwide, whom the foundation supported ideologically as well as financially during their respective studies. This network should not only be used globally but primarily encounters occur on a local level. Therefore KAS alumni founded the first Brazilian Stammtisch in Rio de Janeiro. From now on, the group of alumni will meet regularly to enjoy cultural and social gatherings which are open to all former fellow beneficiaries of the foundation in Brazil.
In the 1970s, the first Brazilian KAS scholarship holders left their Brazilian homeland to study at German universities. Meanwhile, the Foundation consists of more than 120 Brazilian Alumni not merely dwelling in Brazil, but a large number also lives and works in Germany. In addition to study and doctoral fellowships, there are some talented young politicians and journalists who are linked to the foundation through funding programs of the KAS office in Rio de Janeiro. The Brazilian KAS office had already trained aspiring journalists in data journalism and conducted a series of rhetoric courses to enable young people to strengthen their rhetoric and open speech skills. Overall, all of this contributes to a vibrant and diverse culture of debate in Brazil.
During the first meeting of the Stammtisch the alumni exchanged their various academic and professional backgrounds. The alumni'sprofessional diversity was already mirrored through the different ways in which they came in contact with KAS: Some through the regular scholarship program, others through KAS' artists promotion and others received a local sponsorship offerd by the Brazilian Office.
In October, a future generation of Brazilian KAS scholarship recipients will undergo the upcoming selection process. An official alumni meeting will be held as a side event for all former fellows.
