KAS Brazil meets ODCA President - Foundation Office Brazil
Event Reports
The ODCA unites parties from 27 Latin American countries, which defend Christian-democratic, conservative and liberal values. The Democratas (DEM) party, a party of liberal values, is a full member in the association, while the main opposition parties of Brazil, the Partido da Social Democracia Brasileira (PSDB) and the Partido Social Democrata Cristão (PSDC), enjoy observer status.
During his trip, the senior politician visited the São Paulo Municipal Assembly and State legislature. Accompanied by Christian Matthäus, he there met with the Chairman of the Teotônio Vilela Institute, Mr Fernando Guimarães, along with numerous municipal and state politicians of the KAS partner party PSDB. The situation of Liberal and Conservative parties in Latin America, the current political crisis in Brazil and the most pressing economic and social challenges faced by the Latin American countries were all much-discussed topics.
Jorge Ocejo also held a short speech at the 70th anniversary celebration of the ODCA observer party PSDC.
The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the ODCA have been partners for decades. Traditionally, the link has been particularly strong in the case of Spanish-speaking countries of the continent. KAS Brazil and ODCA have plans, however, to cooperate more closely in the future, not least because the Brazilian Democratas are likely to name a vice-president to the association while PSDB and ODCA are set to acquire full member status. The Democratas (DEM) and the Partido da Social Democracia Brasileira (PSDB) are the traditional political partner of KAS in Brazil.
