Energy security and climate change policy are two of the main priorities of the German EU presidency and the German G8 presidency 2007. The world faces today an increasing energy demand, receding ressources, increasing oil and gas prices and the danger of climate change. For this reason renewable energies, i.e. generation of electricity out of solar energy, wind and water power and biomass, gain more and more siginficance. Industrial nations are ultimately responsible for the build-up of greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere. At the same time there is a desperate need for modern energy services all over the developing world.
