Moldova might face snap parliamentary elections 2021. The voters will need to decide between the pro-Western forces, led by current President Maia Sandu, and pro-Russian ones, represented mainly by the Socialist Party in Moldova (PSRM).

Although this political dichotomy is not new for Moldovan politics, this time the stakes are high. Sandu’s presidential victory in 2020 was only a beginning to a long road towards reform, which is impossible to succeed without obtaining a parliamentary majority and forming a pro-Western government. Therefore, many believe that these elections could be a turning point in the country’s recent history.

How does Moldova’s pre-election landscape look like? Why are these elections so important? What will be the implications for Moldova but also for the EU? What are the prospects of Moldova’s foreign policy? These are some of the key questions that will be discussed together with our experts of the European Party Monitor.

The online event “Towards snap elections in Moldova – A political system at the crossroads” will take place on Thursday, 25 March 2021 (11:00-12:00 CET) via Zoom. We look forward to your participation!
