International political dialogue has always been at the heart of the work of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, in Ghana and around the world. By bringing together political decision-makers and experts from Ghana, Germany, other European countries and across Africa, KAS creates spaces to exchange experiences, discuss common challenges and explore different approaches to political, economic and social development.
These exchanges take many forms. KAS regularly invites Ghanaian politicians, policymakers and other stakeholders to Germany and Europe for dialogue programmes and delegation visits, while also facilitating visits and exchanges in Ghana and across the African continent. Depending on the programme, discussions may focus on parliamentary practice, economic cooperation, democratic institutions, policy development, political parties, security or other issues of shared interest. They take place at different political and institutional levels – from specialised exchanges between experts and parliamentarians to high-level encounters between political leaders.
The underlying principle, however, remains the same: political dialogue is not a one-way transfer of knowledge. Different countries and political systems face different realities, but they can learn from one another’s experiences, successes and challenges. Open exchange allows participants to reflect on their own approaches, develop new ideas and build relationships that can continue long after an individual programme has ended.
For KAS, creating and maintaining these connections across national borders is a core part of its identity as an international political foundation. Dialogue creates understanding, relationships create trust, and both are essential for international cooperation. By connecting political actors across countries and continents, KAS provides spaces in which common challenges can be discussed openly and solutions explored together.
