On the night of Friday, June 13, 2025, the military conflict between Israel and Iran reached a new level. The Iranian regime's battle against Israel, which has been waged mainly via Iranian proxies in Lebanon, Gaza and Yemen since October 7, 2023 and long before, had intensified with direct drone and missile attacks on Israel in April and October 2024 and has now escalated further. Recent Iranian violations of nuclear restrictions and indications of the rapid progress of nuclear aspirations prompted Israel to respond decisively to the ongoing threat: Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, air defense systems and missile infrastructure as well as high-ranking military personnel led to significant casualties on the Iranian side, including the deaths of at least 20 high-ranking military personnel and nuclear scientists. Iran responded with a massive missile offensive against military, economic and civilian targets in Israel, which included over 400 missiles and drones and has claimed the lives of 24 people since Friday (as of 17.06.2025) and caused numerous injuries and material damage in densely populated urban areas.
The situation is extremely dynamic and is developing by the hour. In the following interviews with Dr. Michael Rimmel, Director of KAS Israel, you will find insights, background information and assessments of the situation on the ground.
