One year after the massacres that shook Suweida, the province remains fractured and accountability incomplete. A UN Commission of Inquiry and a Syrian government probe have documented widespread abuses, yet no clear justice has followed, and Druze representation in Damascus has all but vanished. Meanwhile, spiritual leader Hikmat al-Hijri has tightened his authoritarian grip, presiding over renewed captagon trafficking and suppressing dissent, all while positioning himself as Israel's ally in the South—deepening Suweida's isolation from the rest of Syria.
