37 distinguished speakers, experts, researchers, and university professors gathered on May 4th and 5th at the Social Sciences Campus of Saint Joseph University in Beirut for the third part of the Lebanese National Convention's second edition, titled "Convention 2.0: The Path to the State - Lebanon in a Complex Regional Situation." The conference, organized by the Lebanese National Convention in collaboration with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the Institute of Political Sciences of Saint-Joseph University of Beirut, featured ten insightful panels covering crucial topics for Lebanon's development and regional dynamics.

The panels examined various significant topics, including the potential escalation of the secret war between Israel and Iran into a wider conflict. They also explored the recent political movement towards rapprochement between Arab leaders and the Syrian regime. Experts engaged in discussions on the complex dynamics that shape Lebanon's relations with the Arab world and the growing influence of India in the region, particularly its potential impact on Lebanon and the Middle East. Moreover, the panels delved into the acute tension between global powers, the United States' strategies for protecting its national security through political involvement in Africa and the Arctic, shedding light on its pursuit of global preeminence in response to China's rise.

On the second day of the convention, panelists addressed the challenges of food security in Lebanon amidst the ongoing socioeconomic crisis, offering valuable recommendations and insights on necessary legislation and measures. Another panel focused on ensuring the safety and health of the food consumed by the Lebanese population, with experts emphasizing the need for potential revisions to existing legislation to meet food safety standards. The final two sessions shed light on the complexities surrounding displaced and refugee populations in Lebanon and the issue of irregular immigration, showcasing a documentary prepared by journalist Asaad Beshara that documented the tragedy of the boat sinking in Tripoli in April 2022 and the local community's suffering.

The report on the proceedings of the third instalment of the second edition of the Lebanese National Convention is available in both English and Arabic languages.

The report provides a comprehensive overview of the discussions held during the convention and serves as an essential resource for anyone interested in understanding the most pressing issues facing Lebanon and the region today.
