The Nabatiyye workshop was the third workshop that the Observatory on Public Administration and Good Governance held on improving the efficiency and effectiveness enhancement of local governments. Therefore, the experiences of the last two workshops in Beirut and the Baalbek-Hermel region were included in the planning.

By focusing on the Nabatiyye region, the topics discussed could be tailored to the needs of the local municipalities. The topics included, among others, the current powers of the municipalities and the implications of wider decentralization reform, urban planning, expenditure planning, income generation for the local population, and the development of a sustainable waste management system. Following inputs from experts on the topics, the participants were able to ask questions and work in groups on the topics before sharing their experiences in their daily work in the communities and collecting and discussing ideas to improve the issues.

The conference was opened by the Minister of Administrative Development, Dr. Inaya Ezzeddine, the administrative director of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Lebanon, Ms. Hana Nasser, and Dr. Fadia Kiwan from the Observatory of Public Administration and Good Governance.
