Over three days in Vienna, Austria, the 2025 IPI World Congress and Media Innovation Festival brings together leading journalists, editors, and media innovators from around the globe to strategize together on defending the future of free media. Under the theme “Defending the Future of Free Media”, this year’s World Congress also marks IPI’s milestone 75th anniversary. The occasion is a chance to reflect on 75 years of defending press freedom and collaborate on a vision for the future of public-interest journalism.
As part of the Congress, the Media Innovation Festival will stage a pioneering global group of digital-native media startups and innovation leaders to explore news strategies and business models for the future of journalism.
For over seven decades, the IPI World Congress has provided a platform for global dialogue and solidarity in defence of free media and public-interest journalism. The Media Programme Sub-Saharan Africa will support the participation of South African journalists.
