Everyday, people across Africa make decisions based on the information available to them. If that information goes unchecked and is misleading or wrong, this can have a serious impact not only on our daily lives, but also human rights, development issues and business. To prevent this spread of disinformation, the practise of fact-checking plays a major role in the work of a journalist.
To foster this practise, KAS Media Africa will be supporting the Africa Check Fellowship initiative by Africa Check for the sixth time. The 12-day programme in Dakar equips the five participating francophone journalists with the knowledge, skills and tools to find credible and reliable data, identify mis- and disinformation, and compile high-quality fact-checking reports. Apart from the training in fact-checking, the fellows will also gain insight into the organizational aspects of running a fact-checking organization such as Africa Check.
