The KAS Media Africa invites journalists, editors, and media practitioners to a three‑day workshop dedicated to strengthening cybersecurity awareness and resilience in African newsrooms. Taking place from 5–7 May 2026 in Gaborone, Botswana, the workshop offers a practical, hands-on learning environment led by Dr Christopher Nehring and other experts in cyber security, disinformation, OSINT, and digital safety.
In an era where cyber threats increasingly target journalists and media organisations, the ability to understand, detect, and mitigate digital risks has become essential. Participants will explore the evolving cyber threat landscape, the human factors behind successful attacks, and the growing impact of artificial intelligence on digital manipulation, deepfakes, and online deception.
Through expert‑led sessions, interactive simulations, group exercises, and practical tool-based training, the programme equips participants with skills in:
- Identifying and categorising cyberattacks targeting media in Africa
- Understanding AI‑driven threats, including deepfakes and automated deception
- Navigating disinformation ecosystems and conducting verification exercises
- Applying OSINT methods in newsroom investigations
- Strengthening personal and organisational cybersecurity
- Protecting digital identities and reducing online vulnerability
This workshop is part of KAS Media Africa’s broader mission to promote media freedom, enhance professional capacity, and support safe, independent journalism across Sub‑Saharan Africa.
