The call for applications for the Summer School of Investigative Reporting 2014 has just started. It will take place from 24 until 30 August in Becici, Montenegro. Host organisations are the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) and the KAS Media Program South East Europe.

KAS supports new online platform for journalists

The Journalist Academy of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) and the Support Programme for Young Journalists (JONA) are cooperation partners of the online platform hostwriter.org. The collaboration website was established as a non-profit journalists’ network by Tamara Anthony, Tabea Grzeszyk and Sandra Zistl in September 2013 in Hamburg under the motto "Find a story, find a colleague, find a couch!" The founders are board members of the association journalists.network that is organizing international research trips for in-depth reporting.

In post-communist states where democratic standards first had to be established, the laws relating to freedom of information are of particular significance. Between 1995 and 2005 many Central and Eastern European countries, such as Serbia and Bulgaria, introduced right to information laws. Today there are a larger number of these laws in the region than in Western developed countries.

Call for proposals is open

The Central European Initiative (CEI) and the South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO), in special partnership with the Media Program South East Europe of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), have opened the call for applications for the 2014 edition of the CEI SEEMO Award for Outstanding Merits in Investigative Journalism. It honours journalists who greatly contribute to investigative reporting despite the difficult conditions under which they operate.

KAS presents recommendations for press councils

Working group for South East Europe formulates principles

The Media Program South East Europe of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) and media law experts of the "Article 10 ECHR" Task Force have presented a series of recommendations for press councils. The advice was formulated in the context of an international symposium in Belgrade, Serbia. Besides the recommendations for press councils, a detailed report about the symposium was published on 20th March in a renowned journal of the German Southeast Europe Foundation.
