The country fell from place 35 to 100 in the current ranking of the non-governmental organisation "Reporters Without Borders". The working conditions of journalists are often described as "unofficial censorship". This includes that favourable reporting has been rewarded and critical comments punished. Besides that, freedom of expression and media diversity have been restricted from extraordinary tax inspection of the media outlets, WDR5 reports.
