The event was opened by Dr. Antonio Momoc, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences at the University of Bucharest. He welcomed the attending more than 100 students and professors and stressed the importance of quality journalism - especially in times of disinformation and hybrid wars. Dr. Liana Ionescu, editor of the Romanian edition of the book and lecturer at the National School for Political Studies and Public Administration in Bucharest, also welcomed the audience. Hendrik Sittig, Director of the KAS Media Programme, said in his opening: "It is not only necessary to learn how to research, write news articles or reports, conduct an interview or produce a radio- or TV-segment." He added that people must always be aware of what makes a good journalist in a democratic society and what criteria quality journalism must fulfil: diligence in research and documentation, separation of opinion and news, objectivity, incorruptibility, factual and truthful reporting.
The book presentation was followed by a lecture on "Disinformation: From the Cold War to the War in Ukraine" by Dr. Christopher Nehring, guest lecturer of the Media Programme at Sofia University and expert on disinformation, media and secret services. He made comparisons between the Cold War and today's Russian war of aggression in Ukraine and provided insights into the impact of disinformation in times of hybrid wars and social media. Dr. Nehring also proposed various concepts on how to counter disinformation.
