Sarajevo: Presentation of the translated handbook "ABC of Journalism” - Media Programme Southeast Europe
On 24th of May 2023, the KAS Media Programme South East Europe presented the well-known German handbook "ABC of Journalism" translated into Croatian in Sarajevo - the event was hosted by the Faculty of Political Science of the University of Sarajevo. The book presentation was traditionally followed by an Adenauer Lecture. It was held by Dr. Peter Frey, former Editor-in-Chief of ZDF. He spoke about the digital development in television and the special responsibility of public service broadcasting in Germany.
Hendrik Sittig, Head of the KAS Media Programme South East Europe, welcomed the almost 60 students as well as the university lecturers and handed over the translated version of the well-known handbook to the faculty. In his welcoming speech, he emphasized the important role of qualitative journalistic training. "Journalism is a craft that has to be learned", he said. The handbook "ABC of Journalism" gives an overview of all important topics that future journalists should know and master. Prof. Dr. Lejla Turčilo, Head of the Department of Communication/Journalism at the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Sarajevo, also welcomed the audience and thanked for the handbook on behalf of the University. She underlined that it significantly supports the education at the university.
The book presentation was followed by Dr. Peter Frey's lecture on the topic "Digital Change in Television and the Special Responsibility of Public Service Broadcasting". He described what the television market in Germany looks like and how it works. His lecture was followed by a question and answer session.
