Renewable Energies and Harambee - Foundation Office Namibia and Angola

On the 3rd of August 2016, the KAS Namibia-Angola held a panel discussion of the topic of “Renewable Energies and Harambee: A chance for accelerated development in Namibia?” at the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre in Windhoek.
The event aimed to explore the potential role that RE can play in the implementation of the Harambee Prosperity Plan, which was introduced by His Excellency Hage Geingob as a mean to foster an accelerated, socially and economically integrated development in Namibia. The debate was build around the five pillars of the Harambee Prosperity Plan
1. Effective governance
2. Economic advancement
3. Social progression
4. Infrastructure Development and
5. International Relations and Cooperation.
But where can renewable energies come in here? Can they contribute to the accelerated development in these priority areas, and if so, how? In order to discuss these questions, KAS Namibia-Angola invited four Namibian experts that looked at each of the pillars individually and explored the potentials of renewable energies before this context.
Special guest was Prof. Dr. Dr. Töpfer, former German Federal Minister for Environment and Health and Executive Director for the UNEP Programme in Nairobi, Kenya. He was joined on stage by Phanuel Kaapama (UNAM, Rowland Brown (EAN), Dr. Zivayi Chiguivare (NEI) and Dr. Detlof von Oertzen (VO Consulting).
The panel discussion attracted an interested audience of more than 100 visitors.
