A common approach for South Asia / Conference in Kathmandu

Phase 1 of the COSATT (Consortium of South Asian Think Tanks) project this year was to have a planning conference involving the heads of collaborating think tanks and was held in Kathmandu, Nepal in January 2011. The meeting deliberated over the issues concerned, identify the framework of the entire study and laid out the research questions for each topic. It also identified the specific topics to be addressed from the perspective of each member state. Below is the report from the conference.

Der Entwurf für die ASCC

Zukunftsvision oder Hirngespinst

Seit während des neunten ASEAN Gipfeltreffens im Oktober 2003 in Bali entschieden wurde, die regionale Integration des Staatenbündnisses auch institutionell auf drei Säulen zu basieren, haben zahlreiche Bemühungen stattgefunden, diese Säulen durch Arbeitsgruppen, Ministertreffen und Konferenzen in trockene Tücher zu bringen. Hierbei wurde naturgemäß den primären Anliegen, nämlich der wirtschaftlichen und der sicherheitspolitischen Integration ein besonderes Augenmerk beigemessen. So befinden sich die ASEAN Security Community (ASC) und die ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), auch dank des zum Teil massiven Eingriffes wirtschaftlicher Verbände auf einem sehr hohen Entwicklungsstand und auch die Finanzierung bereitet den Ausführenden momentan keine Probleme. Eher stiefmütterlich wurde dahingegen die ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) behandelt.
