Among the 18 participants were researchers and policymakers from the International Organization for Migration, European Parliament, Parliament of the Republic of Singapore, Ministry of the Interior of Hungary, University of Amsterdam, University of Leiden, Kwansei Gaikun University in Japan, University of the Philippines Diliman and Expert Council of German Foundations on Integration and Migration.

The participants brought in different perspectives and shared policy frameworks for migration and integration. It was possible to identify common challenges for both regions such as the reluctance by countries to give up sovereignty, protection of migrants, treatment of temporary migrants, and the involvement of various actors in integration measures.
