The GCC-German Young Leaders Forum facilitates exchange between young decision-makers, professionals, and experts from the Gulf states and Germany, thus strengthening relations between the next generation of leaders from these countries. Through promoting open dialogue and debate, the Forum aims to establish a network, based on mutual understanding, between young leaders from Germany and the Gulf. Convened as an exclusive event on the sidelines of the 7th German-Arab Gulf Dialogue on Security and Cooperation, this edition of the Forum features exchanges with high-level decision-makers and discussions on topics of importance to relations between Germany and the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Cognizant of the significant milestones in EU-GCC relations that will occur in the coming years – starting with the second summit between EU and GCC heads of state next year in Riyadh – this year’s Forum will also discuss ideas for what relations between the two blocs could look like in the future. Specifically, the Forum will focus on potentials for cooperation in the fields of security and defence, economy and energy, socioeconomic transformation, and people-to-people exchange. These discussions on topics of contemporary and future importance to German-GCC relations aim to highlight young leaders’ viewpoints and integrate these perspectives more strongly into political discourses in Berlin, Brussels, and Gulf capitals.
