The defense forces security units are directly implicated in the violence during the election period, between November 26 and December 25 2011. The United Nations released on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, a detailed report on serious human rights violations such as killings and arbitrary dispersions perpetrated in Kinshasa.
According to investigators, at least 33 people were killed by security forces in Kinshasa, 16 others remain missing and nearly 83 were injured.
Furthermore they state the illegal arrests of at least 265 civilians. Most of these people were arbitrarily detained and, according to witnesses, they were tortured.
The report also mentions the repression against activists belonging to the opposition party, the UDPS of Etienne Tshisekedi, the main opponent of President Joseph Kabila in the presidential election
Security forces implicated
According to this report, most of the violence involves the Republican Guard and the Congolese National Police, especially agents from the Mobile Intervention Group, the National Intelligence Agency, and the Military Forces (FARDC)
Meanwhile, Scott Campbell, representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in the DRC, said that the judicial inquiry opened by the Congolese authorities had yielded very few results.
